The Repeating Troubles of David

Scripture Reading:  1 Samuel 28:7

When we left off our study in lesson number four, how was the ancient nation of Israel (descendants of Jacob) doing? Was it doing great, mediocre, or pathetic? I think that it was doing rather poorly.

First, its king, King Saul, had gone to an individual who had a familiar or a spirit of divination. This person was believed to have the ability to foretell the future or read omens. This was the type of individual that Saul personally kicked out of his nation several decades before. And now he is seeking one of them out to give him some information.

Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 25:43, 44:

1 Samuel 25:43, 44:

43) “David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel: and they were also both of them his wives.

44) But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David’s wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, which was of Galim.”

What is David doing? Why does he marry Abigail now? He was a homeless wanderer and in no condition to give unto a wife the care and devotion to which she is entitled. Should he wait a little bit, after the death of her husband, before  he asked her to be his wife? Doesn’t the Scripture teach “to everything there is a season” (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

And how did David know Ahinoam? What happened? The Bible does not tell us anything about their relationship. He was still homeless and in no way to provide for her. When did they meet? How soon after he asked Abigail to marry him did, did he ask Ahinoam? How long did they know each other? The Bible doesn’t tell us.

Scripture Reading:  1 Samuel 24:1

From these words of the Scriptural reading, we gather that Saul had been successful in turning back the invading Philistines. This illustrates a principle which is often lost sight of: human success is no proof of divine approbation. The mere fact that a man is prospering outwardly, does not, of itself, demonstrate that his life is pleasing unto the Lord. Only an infidel would deny that it was God who enabled Saul to clear his land of the Philistines, yet we err seriously if we conclude from this that He delighted in him.

1Samuel 24:2:

“Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.”

Saul had been providentially blocked while pursuing David, by the invading Philistines; but now, as soon as this hindrance by the invading Philistines was removed, he redoubles his evil efforts. One would think that the very invasion of the Philistines changed Saul’s attitude toward the one whom he was so causelessly and relentlessly pursuing. Ought he not to have realized now, more forcible than ever, that he needed David at the head of his army to repulse the common enemy? Very few people thrive as well in times of prosperity as they do in seasons of adversity.

Scripture Reading:Psalm 52:1-9

This Psalm, Psalm 52, is about Doeg and what he said to Saul about David’s visit to Nob. Saul had just criticized his Benjaminite servants that they had conspired against him when Doeg, the Edomite, answered him.

Who is an Edomite? It is a descendant of Esau. What is a descendant of Esau doing making comments, or even being in the army of the descendants of Jacob? Doeg served King Saul as the chief of his herdsmen. The Bible does not explicitly state how a foreigner (stranger) and an enemy from Edom joined Saul’s royal staff. But most historians and scholars suggest Doeg may have been taken as a captive during Israel’s military campaign against Edom or entered service as a political ally or high-ranking servant.

Scripture Reading:  Deuteronomy 28:43, 44:

43) “The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.

44) He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.”

Who shall be the head or the leader? Who shall be the tail or the follower? Deuteronomy, chapter 28 tells of what will happen if Israel fails to hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which he commanded thee.

When Israel does this, they are going to be ruled by people who are not their own kind, i.e. foreigners. They will be at the bottom of the rung.

Now, is Israel keeping the law of God or have they not been keeping His commandments and His statutes? It is my opinion that Israel doesn’t even know who they come from. They are ignorant that they are descendants of Jacob and are recipients of the Abrahamic covenant.

Scripture Reading:  Joshua 24:20:  “If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then He will turn and do you harm, and consume you, after He hath done you good.”

We are trying in this series to show who are the modern-day descendants of Esau. In fact, when I asked a Christian Zionist debater, who he thought the Jews said were the people descended from Esau, he answered, “He didn’t know and didn’t care.” I think that is the attitude of most people in the world today. He was unaware that the Jews say that the modern-day descendants of Esau are Rome, the Europeans, and Christians. And that would include him, wouldn’t it?

Look at what Burton L. Visotzky, Nathan and Janet Appleman Professor Emeritus of Midrash and interreligious studies surmise:

Scripture Reading:  Genesis 27:29:

This is a two-part series about twin boys who lived about four thousand years ago. Are their lives of any importance in today’s world? Their mother was Rebekah and she was having difficulty while she was pregnant. For the twins struggled so violently while they were in her womb that she asked the LORD what was happening. The LORD answered that there were two manners of people that were in her womb; and “the elder would serve the younger” (Genesis 25:22-23).

Scripture Reading  Deuteronomy 23:19, 20:

Is our God blessing us? Do our banks, which are mainly owned by foreigners, charge us usury/interest? We are not being blessed by the God of the Bible but are being cursed as we are slaves to our billionaire masters who charge us usury.

In the year 2000, there were nine countries without a Rothschild-owned or controlled central bank. In the year 2007, U.S. Army General and former NATO commander Wesley Clark, tells how he was given information about a classified military plan to “take out” seven countries in five years.

The former commander of NATO’s forces claims that the Bush Administration was planning to attack (1) Iraq followed by action against (2) Syria, (3) Lebanon, (4) Libya, (5) Iran, (6) Somalia, and (7) Sudan. The general’s allegations surfaced in his book, The Clark Critique.

Sermon Text:  Daniel 2:35

The dream that Daniel dreamt are prophecies about coming kingdoms that wouldn’t come true until many years into the future from the time of the dream. The first four kingdoms are not hard to identify, but the fifth kingdom, some say six or more – has been more difficult to give an accurate description without the interpretation by the Holy Spirit. This sermon is about one of these times in recent history that the misidentification of what the Stone Kingdom meant and its timing of when it was to appear, caused much confusion and was disastrous and is still disastrous to Christendom.

Scripture Reading:  Luke 1:5

There are members of the Baptist Church today who claim that John the Baptist was the first member of the Baptist Church, but it is nothing but a joke. John the Baptist was a Levite. His mother, Elizabeth, was the daughter of the descendants of Aaron, who was the grandson of Kohath, the son of Levi, and his father was the 8th course of the Priests, a descendant of Merari, who was the son of Levi. See chart on next page.

John the Baptist baptized Jesus when the Son of God was thirty years old in the Jordan River after He came from Galilee. Immediately after Jesus was baptized, a miracle took place: The heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove, and a voice from heaven, the voice of God the Father, proclaimed Jesus as His Son. Jesus’ public ministry was now ready to begin.
