The Christogenea Hymnal

The Christogenea Hymnal book cover Contains 109 traditional hymns. It has topical headings, alphabetical index, an Appendix which contains two articles, “What is Christian Identity?” and “Model Prayers.” The prayers and hymns in the back will be a great resource for church or for family worship. This compilation of hymns relies heavily upon the post-Reformation period. There are hymns traditionally known as Methodist, Baptist, or Lutheran hymns. Now there are hymns that will come to be known as Christian Identity hymns, such as, “O Israel Awaken,” or “Jerusalem” (The Glastonbury Hymn), or “God’s Covenant People.” This hymnal features eight hymns by pastor and hymnist, Joseph Irons (1785-1852). Most have never heard of Irons although he wrote nearly as many hymns as Isaac Watts, considered by many as the greatest name among hymn-writers. It is said that Irons’ hymns did not gain popularity because of their “strong Calvinistic teaching” (Dictionary of Hymnology, 1907). Many of the hymns will be familiar to most Christians regardless of their religious background; however, there will be hymns you have never heard of before.  Book is out of print and limited copies available.
