Eve's Story
“For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed” Genesis 4:25
By Walter Giddings
(Genesis 3:6). To “…have these things always in remembrance” [2 Peter 1:15] shall we research things we have in time past searched? Might this help us perceive the importance of questions asked? We begin with Responsive Reading:
p 6 And when the woman saw that
the tree was good for food, and that
it was pleasant to the eyes, and a
tree to be desired to make one wise,
she took of the fruit thereof, and did
eat, ...
Genesis chapter three.
(1 John 2:16). Does “all that is in the world” fall under 3 categories?
c 16 For all that is in the world, the
lust of the flesh, and the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life is not of
the Father, but is of the world.
First John chapter two.
Using our assignments above, we now enter into a guided responsive reading set forth in our cues on the screen. Nothing in The Bible will be altered. We are using the screen to get our cues for our participation.
p ... when the woman saw that the tree
was good for food,
c the lust of the flesh,
p and that it was pleasant to the eyes,
c the lust of the eyes,
p and a tree to be desired to make one
wise,
c and the pride of life,
What have we experienced in our Responsive Reading from two different Books of The Bible, Old Testament and New Testament? What prima facie Evidence did we discover, comparing Genesis 3 with 1 John 2? Does this Evidence illustrate one of The Laws for Witnessing, one of The Laws of Bible Study? Which one? Do you want me to name some of those Laws? Harmony. Harmony. Harmony. Harmony. Harmony! In God’s Library of Books each Verse of Scripture is in Harmony(!) with every other Verse of Scripture!!!
Did those three Temptations, “the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life”, work mightily to deceive the woman, even while she was in her forever living body? Was Adam also deceived?! Back to my reading assignment for the Pedagogue, continuing Genesis 3:6:
p she took of the fruit thereof and did eat, …
At that very moment “she took of the fruit thereof and did eat”, did that bring The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil into the world with Dominion power? Did it?
No!!! Our 1st Witness in The Scriptures that Eve eating the forbidden fruit did not usher that Tree into “the heavens and the earth which are now” [2 Peter 3:7] is the last phrase of my assigned reading Genesis 3:6:
p ... and gave also unto her husband
with her; and he did eat.
Genesis chapter three.
Question.... Does the Phrase “with her” specify that Adam was with her when he ate? Does the Phrase “and gave also unto her husband” mean that Adam got that Tree’s forbidden fruit from Her?! If any brother has Witnesses from The Scriptures to the contrary, please do not hesitate to take me aside privately and acquaint me with them! The “p” in front of my assigned readings indicates I am your pedagogue for this Lesson, charged with the responsibility to lead you to the Real Teacher, our Master, Jesus Christ, the Author!
Our 2nd Witness that Adam was “with her” when he ate is found in The New Testament Scriptures (1 Timothy 2:13-14). Was Adam also deceived?
p 13 For Adam was first formed, then,
Eve.
c 14 And Adam was not deceived, but
the woman being deceived was in
the transgression.
First Timothy chapter two.
Did Adam find Eve “in the transgression”?
Is the fact that “Adam was first formed” important? How important?! Verse 14 begins with “And Adam was not deceived”! Does it seem clear that The Serpent’s success depended upon him confronting her without her husband being present?! Would Adam’s Love for Eve have prompted him to leap to her Protection? "The woman being deceived was in the transgression.” Scripture [1 Timothy 2:14] bluntly tells us “And Adam was not deceived.” Why did he eat?!
(Genesis 2:7). “Adam was first formed” when? When was Adam “first formed”? And what was the Purpose for which he was formed?!
7 And the LORD God formed man
of the dust of the ground, and breathed
into his nostrils the breath of
life; and man became a living soul.
What do we know about when this occurred? Did God form (Adam) man of “the dust of the ground” “before the foundation of the world”, or “since the foundation of the world”? And was that Body perfect for the Task that God gave Adam? What was that Mission God gave Adam to accomplish?! The answer is “before”.
(Genesis 2:8). We have three Witnesses to Adam’s Mission. Here is the 1st:
8 And the LORD God planted a gar-
den eastward in Eden; and there he
put the man whom he had formed.
(Genesis 2:15). Here is the 2nd Witness:
15 And the LORD God took the man,
and put him into the garden of Eden
to dress it and to keep it.
Genesis chapter two.
(Genesis 1:28). Here is our 3rd Witness:
28 And God blessed them, and God
said unto them, Be fruitful, and mul-
tiply, and replenish the earth, and
subdue it: and have dominion over
the fish of the sea, and over the fowl
of the air, and over every living thing
that moveth upon the earth.
Genesis chapter one.
How big a job is Dominion?! Does it end for most of us when we leave the borders of the dirt under our stewardship?! Do u.s. citizens have any stewardship under the War Powers Emergency Congress, the War Powers Emergency Administration, and the War Powers Emergency Judiciary? Was Mary Jo Kopechne’s Family unable to gain remedy for Ted Kennedy’s Wrong because he was judgment proof: he owned nothing yet controlled everything under a private trust!!! How big a job is Dominion?! Did God entrust Adam with Dominion? We learned from Genesis 2:8, “And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.” Was there something wrong with the body the LORD God formed for Adam? Was Adam, in that body formed for him, unable to keep Dominion? When Adam abdicated Dominion, was that God’s Will? Or was that Adam’s Choice?
Will we ever get that forever living body back again? (Philippians 3:18-19).
p 18 (For many walk, of whom I have
told you often, and now tell you even
weeping, that they are the enemies of
the cross of Christ:
c 19 Whose end is destruction, whose
God is their belly, and whose glory is
in their shame, who mind earthly
things.)
Do we have family and friends who are “the enemies of the cross of Christ”? Do we all have family and friends “whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things”? Many of their names are on our Prayer list! For, do we earnestly hope that Christ’s Power to subdue all things unto himself will begin to subdue our family and friends unto Him even as He is now subduing us?!
p 20 For our conversation is in heaven;
from whence also we look for the Savi-
our, the Lord Jesus Christ:
c 21 Who shall change our vile body,
that it may be fashioned like unto his
glorious body, according to the working
whereby he is able even to subdue all
things unto himself.
Philippians chapter three.
That Dominion which Adam abdicated, will we ever get that back? (Micah 4:7-8). Are we “the daughter of Jerusalem”?
p 7 And I will make her that halted a
remnant, and her that was cast far off
a strong nation: and the LORD shall
reign over them in mount Zion from
henceforth, even forever.
c 8 And thou, O tower of the flock, the
stronghold of the daughter of Zion, un-
to thee shall it come, even the first
dominion; the kingdom shall come to
the daughter of Jerusalem.
Micah chapter four.
“Even the first dominion.” We read in Philippians 3:20-21 that for those whose “conversation is in heaven” “the Lord Jesus Christ” ... “shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body”. Does this mean we get back that forever living Body God gave Adam in Original Formation, perfectly suited for exercising Dominion? Will we then, in the world to come, continue on to “subdue the earth”? Is this part of “when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord”? [Acts 3:19]. Is this part of “the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began”? [Acts 3:21].
(Proverbs 30:20). This Verse describes in few words “the way of an adulterous woman”:
20 Such is the way of an adulterous
woman; she eateth, and wipeth her
mouth, and sayeth, I have done no
wickedness.
Proverbs chapter thirty.
She has no idea she is doing wickedness?! Is she deceived?!(Genesis 4:1-2). Can we compare between “the way of an adulterous woman” and Eve’s behavior?
c And Adam knew Eve his wife; and
she conceived, and bare Cain, and
said, I have gotten a man from the
LORD.
p 2 And she again bare his brother
Abel. And Abel was a keeper of
sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the
ground.
Genesis chapter four.
There is a whole lot being said in these few words! Does Eve say the same thing in reference to Abel? What does “I have gotten a man from the LORD” mean?
Does it mean that is from where all babies come? The Hebrew word translated “from” is H854 ‘eyth, ayth, the two consonant diphthong, Aleph Thav, kindred to Alpha Omega. It is elsewhere translated “with”! Did Eve believe that she had gotten Cain “with the LORD”? Does “that old serpent” impersonate God to the unwary?
Has “the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan” [Revelation 20:2] ever impersonated The LORD, The Great I Am? Has he? If Impersonation is a crime, would the willingness to commit it be Criminal Intent? (Isaiah 14:14).
Do we see here the very picture of the morning star angel in rebellion against God?
14 I will ascend above the heights
of the clouds; I will be like the
Most High.
Isaiah chapter fourteen.
“I will be like the Most High.” Is this Criminal Intent to Impersonation? Did Eve believe “that old serpent”, the Enchanter, was The LORD, the Great I Am? Did Adam’s wife Eve say she acquired Cain “from”, or “with” the LORD? Did the Angels cohabit with the daughters of Adam, and they bare giants? Did Adam prefer his 1st born Abel? Did Eve prefer her 1st born Cain? Did Adam and Eve fight over the kids? Did Adam want Cain there for Abel’s 1st sacrifice? Did Eve sponsor Cain’s presence in church to make sacrifice with Abel? Did the LORD God intervene?
Did Eve run out from under cover, instead of running for cover? (1 Corinthians 11:10). Did Paul the Apostle warn against the woman being without cover?
10 For this cause ought the woman
to have power on her head because
of the angels.
First Corinthians chapter eleven.
(Genesis 4:25). Does Eve say the opposite of what she said in Verses 1-2?
25 And Adam knew Eve his wife
again; and she bare a son, and called
his name Seth: for God, said she,
hath appointed me another seed in-
stead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
Genesis chapter four.
Who publishes, or heralds God’s Words to God’s People? What do we call that Office? Is Eve in the office of Prophetess? Is Eve publishing or heralding what God said? Did God say, I am appointing Eve another seed instead of Abel? Is this appointment instead of, or in place of Cain? Or is this appointment instead of, or in place of Abel? Is Eve saying, here, the opposite of what she said in Genesis 4:1-2? Do we find it astonishing that the God of our Fathers can say so much in so few words?
Among Gospel of the Kingdom believers, I have encountered at times, over the years, some considerable criticism of Genesis 4. Can we now say Genesis 4 does an admirable job of framing Eve’s Story, from her Sin, even unto her Walk in Repentance? Is the brevity we are encountering here remarkable?! This kind of brevity seldom appears in worldly books! It does appear in many places in Our Scriptures. The closest example is the death of Cain, and the death of Lamech’s first born son in Genesis 4:23-24,our two prior Verses. Most “babes” in Christ miss the import of these two Verses.
(Genesis 5:3). How old was Adam when he begat Seth?
3 And Adam lived an hundred and
thirty years, and begat a son in his
own likeness, after his image; and
called his name Seth:
There seems to be a time period here! In earthly terms, “under time”, this is a classic lapse of time. What frames this time period? Is this period of time, here, framed by the premature death of Abel at the hands of his womb brother Cain, and the begetting of Seth? How long is the time period between Abel’s assassination with the subsequent Exile of Cain from the continent of Eden, and Seth being naturally born to his earthly Father Adam? Is it possible to calculate that time lapse?
Is it helpful to recall that serious students of The Scriptures over the last almost 2000 years have been able to count the period of time from the ages of the Patriarchs, descended from Adam, unto The Flood of Noah’s Day!!! Can we safely begin with The Truth of Adam’s age at 130 years, when the 1st “substituted” Patriarch of Adamic descent is born!
What was that 1st Year like for “the guilty pair, bowed down with care”? [Selection 67, The Love of God, in our 2nd Hymnals]. Did that 1st year begin in the Spring with the 1st Blood Sacrifice? What am I talking about?
(Genesis 3:20). During the 1st Church Service did The LORD God have Adam the 1st earthly Prophet, anoint His Wife with her Name, a name of profound significance and meaning: Eve!
20 And Adam called his wife’s name
Eve; because she was the mother of
all living.
Can we imagine what the Sermon at this 1st Church Service was all about? Did Eve become the mother of all those eligible to live again Eternally? Does this mean “the LORD God” preached a Sermon on “the hope of eternal life”? [Titus 3:7].
Are some of us unconvinced that this was the 1st Church Service? Can we get a Witness? (here in Genesis 3:21). To be a Church Service, would there have to have been a blood sacrifice?
21 Unto Adam also and to his wife
did the LORD God make coats of
skins, and clothed them.
Genesis chapter three.
“Coats of skins” Clothing! Did Adam and his wife already have clothing? Where did we read that?
We are still in Genesis 3. Shall we look back to Verse 7?
7 And the eyes of them both were
opened, and they knew that they
were naked; and they sewed fig
leaves together, and made themselves
aprons.
Genesis chapter three.
“They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.” Why did the LORD God reclothe them?
Could it be that the “fig leaves” were of “the tree of knowledge of good and evil”? Does this mean that both Adam and his wife switched Trees? Does the LORD God pursue us, like he did Adam and his wife, to draw us to His Son Jesus Christ, and cause us to switch Trees, to return to the Tree of Life? What happens to us if, on this side of Life, we fail to switch back to the Tree of Life? In Revelation 22, the last chapter of The Bible, is the only Tree left standing in The Garden the Tree of Life!!! Does it appear that the aprons of fig leaves did not please the LORD God? Was the change of clothing the order of the day?
The LORD God’s 3rd Provision for “the guilty pair” contains an unfinished thought! Verse 22.
22 And the LORD God said, Behold,
the man has become one of us, to
know good and evil; and now unless
he put forth his hand, and take also of
the tree of life, and eat, and live forever:
And what?!!! What is the consequence of Adam, in his image, in his base and abominable condition, of putting forth his hand, taking also of the tree of life, and eating, and living forever?!!! Against what, or from what did The LORD God guard Adam? Does Verse 23 give us a clue?
23 Therefore the LORD God sent
him forth from the garden of Eden,
to till the ground from whence he
was taken.
Were Adam and Eve exiled from God’s headquarters on earth, and put out on the front lines of the Battle, now joined between the serpent’s seed and the woman’s seed? Does Verse 24 tell us how this was an Act of Mercy from our Heavenly Father who has been robbed of His Children?
24 So he drove out the man; and he
placed at the east of the garden of
Eden Cherubims, and a flaming
sword which turned every way, to
keep the way of the tree of life.
Genesis chapter three.
“To keep the way of the tree of life.” To keep or guard the way! “The Way” of the Tree of Life! Does this remind us of a Scripture in the Gospels?!
(John 14:6). Who is “The Way”? Is “The Way” personified?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the
way, the truth, and the life: no
man cometh unto the Father, but
by me.
John chapter fourteen.
“I am the way.” Did guarding against Adam putting forth his hand, taking also of the tree of life, and eating, and living forever prevent violation of “the way of the tree of life”? Was the LORD God’s act of exiling Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden an Act of pure Mercy and Lovingkindness? Did the LORD God’s Act of exiling Adam and Eve contribute to “keep”, or guard “the way of the tree of life”?
(John 6:44). Can we get a 2nd Witness? Did the Author of the Scriptures set this Witness up earlier in the same Gospel of John?
44 No man can come to me, except
the Father which hath sent me draw
him: and I will raise him up at the
last day.
“And I will raise him up at the last day.” Is this the same Sermon the LORD God preached to Adam and his wife at the 1st blood sacrifice? Is this the Sermon on “the hope of eternal life”? [Titus 3:7]. “Except the Father ... draw him” Does this mean that the Father pursues us, as he did Adam and his wife hiding amongst the trees in the garden of Eden?!
(Verse 65). Did the Godhead think this Doctrine to be so Important that Jesus repeated this in Verse 65?
65 And he said, Therefore said I un-
to you, that no man can come unto
me, except it were given unto him of
my Father.
John chapter six.
(Genesis 6:12). Was the Flood of Noah’s day an Act of pure Mercy and lovingkindness? Did the LORD God, did our Heavenly Father bring the Flood upon the earth because of the corruption of “his way”?
12 And God looked upon the earth,
and, behold, it was corrupt: for all
flesh had corrupted his way upon
the earth.
Genesis chapter six.
Will the LORD God, our Heavenly Father rise up to judge the earth in our day to put an end to the corruption of “his way upon the earth”?!!! “But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” [Matthew 24:37]. “And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.” [Luke 17:26]. In The Great Transgression, did Eve and Adam corrupt themselves?!!
