King Louis IX of France was lauded for his persecution of the Jews as part of his ideal Christian kingship. The anti-Jewish policies encouraged by the king, including the burning of the Talmud and other jewish books, made it harder than ever to live in France as a Jew. Shortly, thereafter, the Jews were expelled from France in 1306.
