After the idea for the Gregorian calendar was accepted and put into effect by the Pope on Oct. 4, 1582, the following calendar day was announced as October 15 to correct the 10-day discrepancy. It took almost 200 years for all the Protestant nations to accept this change. In North America, the month of September 1752 was exceptionally short, skipping 11 days.
