The Schutzstaffel (SS) had the same ancestry qualifications as the Teutonic Knights, requiring members to prove their German heritage for three generations. The SS also began its own “Northern Crusade”, reconquering the same land in Eastern Europe that the Catholic knights had previously taken (Hungary, Poland, and Estonia)
